AFS Debuts Campus-Life Concept Store

Campus Corner, a new 1,800-square-foot grocery store, has opened at Utah Tech University, operated by Associated Food Stores (AFS). Compact and tailored to meet the needs of the university’s growing student population, the store offers convenience, fresh products, and cutting-edge technology.

Situated in the recently built Campus View Suites, the store was established to support the influx of over 1,600 students into new on-campus housing. Recognizing the demand for accessible food and essentials, particularly for students with limited time and transportation, the university developed this store as a solution.

Campus Corner provides a variety of departments, including grocery, frozen foods, dairy, produce, and bakery, along with Brooks Stop, a quick-serve restaurant that now includes sushi. The store also incorporates modern technology such as electronic shelf labels, self-checkout, and advanced inventory management, offering an efficient and streamlined shopping experience.

“They wanted to create a space that caters specifically to the university community,” said retail sales counselor to Campus Corner, Travis Hughes. “Students needed healthy and affordable options, right at their doorstep, so they can focus on their studies, and this store delivers in impressive ways.”

Though Campus Corner primarily caters to the students, faculty, and staff of Utah Tech University, it is also open to the public, offering a convenient shopping option for the wider St. George community.

The project took around three years from initial planning to completion, with the last 18 months focused on the store’s design and construction. Its grand opening was scheduled to align with the start of the fall semester and featured special promotions, including free hot dogs, over 1,200 Sweet P’s cookies, and storewide discounts.
