Amazon is going big in Chicago suburban Orland Park in late 2026. The massive 230,000 square foot store has been approved by the village board and will dwarf any Walmart Supercenter. The store will carry groceries, prepared foods, general merchandise, and household essentials. The Orland Park site is 25 miles southwest from Chicago on 159th Street. The single-story store will be located by a Target, Costco, and Walmart. This brick-and-mortar expansion is a clear sign that Amazon plans to compete with Walmart, the country’s largest grocery retailer. Amazon is planning to open other big-box stores across the U.S. according to business sources. The new store may dedicate half of its space to retail and the other half to fulfill online and in-store orders. It’s anticipated that the grocery product mix will include items from Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh.
