Associated Food Stores (AFS) has launched its Tiered Incentive Discount (TID) program, designed to provide retailers with increasing discounts based on order quantities. This initiative moves beyond traditional pallet-only deals, offering greater flexibility and cost savings.
“TIDs were created with retailers’ needs in mind,” said Lon Herget, Director of Center Store Category Management at AFS. “This new allowance unlocks numerous opportunities for stores, enabling better cost efficiency, greater product customization, and improved accessibility. We’re excited to leverage advanced warehouse technology to enhance merchandising and create a more impactful in-store experience.”
TIDs apply to select product groups during pre-commit events, allowing retailers to access tiered discounts by purchasing specified case quantities on a single order or ship date. The more they buy, the greater the savings:
- Tier 1: Purchase 10 cases – receive $2 off per case
- Tier 2: Purchase 15 cases – receive $3 off per case
TIDs also allow mix-and-match flexibility, meaning retailers can combine eligible products to meet tier thresholds rather than purchasing fixed quantities of specific items. Additionally, these discounts stack on top of existing allowances such as off-invoice savings, temporary price reductions, and performance-based incentives, further enhancing cost efficiency. For grocery retailers, TIDs provide a customized, cost-effective purchasing strategy. Meanwhile, wholesale teams benefit from optimized inventory management and larger, more efficient orders, driving savings and improved supply chain operations.
Based in Salt Lake City, AFS serves nearly 450 retailers across the Intermountain West, supplying independently owned supermarkets throughout the Western United States. The company ranks No. 73 on Progressive Grocer’s 2024 PG 100 list of North America’s top food and consumables retailers.
