Bashas’ was again selected by FirstFruits to be involved in their “Take a Bite Out of Hunger” program along with Raley’s for 2023. The mission of the “Take a Bite Out of Hunger” program is to provide food to underserved areas and raise awareness of food insecurity within the Unites States. Nearly 40,000 pounds of apples were donated to local food banks between the retailers. The donations were earned based on apple sales from January and February. This year, shoppers purchased 24% more apples than in the previous year, increasing the matching donation by 24% as well. While Bashas’ has been partnering with Take a Bite Out of Hunger since 2018, the organization began in 2010 and has donated more than 2.8 million pounds of fresh apples in the name of their partnership retailers.
Joe Vargas, Director of Marketing and Analytics for FirstFruits said, “We’re grateful for the support we have received from…Bashas’ over the years. These community-minded grocery stores are fantastic contributors to the neighborhoods they serve.”
