A new chapter begins for the McKinney Avenue storefront that once housed Foxtrot, a Chicago-based neighborhood coffee shop and market. Soon, the space will be home to a similar concept from Dallas-based Berkley’s Market. Berkley’s, which recently closed two of its four Dallas locations, will now occupy the former Foxtrot location after the Chicago chain, along with its other three Dallas stores, abruptly shut down in April. “We’re bringing back a local, neighborhood grocer to McKinney Avenue, in one of the most dynamic areas in Dallas,” said Berkley’s Market founder Zac Porter. “And this location is perfect for us – it’s on the main thoroughfare, halfway between our other two stores, making it an ideal hub for our operations.”
In a move to streamline operations, Berkley’s Market closed its downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff locations to focus on its “more central McKinney Avenue location,” according to a company statement. The goal is to better serve a wider customer base. Like its predecessor, Berkley’s Market is a blend of coffee shop and upscale market, offering prepared foods, pantry staples, beer, and wine. The new Uptown spot will also double as a test kitchen for its remaining locations in Knox Henderson and the Arts District. Customers can expect a selection of locally sourced goods, including pastries from La Casita Bakeshop and bagels from Shug’s Bagels. “We’re leaning further into our prepared foods program here, while still offering our core favorites,” Porter said.
Originally opened under the Royal Blue Grocer brand, an Austin-based market chain, Berkley’s Market rebranded in 2021 after its co-owners, led by Jeff Porter, split from the parent company. While more Berkley’s Market locations are in the pipeline, details on where and when they will open have yet to be disclosed.
