Big Updates in Store for Big Y Foods E-Commerce Platform
Big Y Foods is celebrating the one-year anniversary of myPicks Online Ordering e-commerce platform. The grocer was inspired to launch the service after seeing a rise in online ordering and higher customer demand for alternative ways to shop. Since its launch in 2021, Big Y continued to gather feedback from customers and is using it to improve the overall experience. The myPicks platform recently launched an upgraded website with improved functionality that will enable services such as home delivery powered by Instacart, and the ability to accept payments via EBT and SNAP benefits. The updated platform also offers same-day order and pickup and continues to expand fresh and local product offerings. While employees select perishables from inside Big Y’s store in Chicopee, Massachusetts, the neighboring micro-fulfillment center picks the customer’s center store products to complete the click-and-collect order, thereby limiting the amount of time employees spend walking up and down aisles picking out items and expediting the process. The 10,000 square foot micro-fulfillment center, which houses 20,000 of the retailer’s top-selling products, is capable of processing 4,000 to 5,000 orders per week and is attached to a 60,000 square-foot store. One of the largest independently owned supermarket chains in New England, Springfield, Mass.-based Big Y operates 72 locations in New England. Of those 72 locations, the myPicks platform currently services customers at 11 locations with plans to take e-commerce chainwide.
