BJ’s Wholesale Club Expands to Texas with Four New Locations

BJ’s Wholesale Club is making its debut in Texas, with plans to open four new locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. According to permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction on these stores is set to begin this year.

The planned locations in Fort Worth, Forney, Waxahachie, and Grand Prairie will each span over 106,000 square feet, with an estimated construction cost of $9.5 million per store. The Fort Worth and Waxahachie locations are expected to break ground in June, with projected completion by February 2026. The Forney and Grand Prairie stores are also on track for early 2026 openings.

BJ’s will enter a competitive market, going head-to-head with established warehouse retailers like Costco and Sam’s Club, which already have multiple locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In Forney and Waxahachie, BJ’s will be one of the first major warehouse clubs in these growing communities, while Fort Worth and Grand Prairie have well-established competition from both national and regional retailers.

BJ’s Wholesale Club has seen significant growth in membership, which has increased by 40% since 2018. The company recently surpassed 7.5 million members, with renewal rates at an all-time high.

Financially, BJ’s continues to perform well. In the third quarter of 2024, the retailer reported $5 billion in net sales, a 3.4% year-over-year increase, while net income grew 19.4% to $155.7 million. Comparable club sales, excluding gasoline, grew 3.8% year-over-year, and gross profit rose by $73 million, reaching $975 million for the quarter.

With its expansion into Texas, BJ’s Wholesale Club is poised to bring its value-driven shopping experience to a new audience, adding to the state’s already competitive warehouse retail landscape.
