Bozzuto’s Buys Controlling Interest of Roch Bros.

Roche Bros. Supermarkets, a family-owned regional grocery chain with 20 stores in Massachusetts, has announced the sale of a controlling interest to Bozzuto’s Inc., one of its primary suppliers. This strategic partnership will allow the wholesaler to hold a 51% share in the business, as confirmed during a recent Boston licensing board meeting. Co-owners Caitlin, Ed, and Rich Roche emphasized that the decision was made to preserve the company’s legacy while creating new growth opportunities. “After many decades under family ownership, this decision marks an important step in the company’s evolution,” the Roche family wrote in a statement. They highlighted their focus on maintaining the business’s core values, team stability, and positive community impact.

The family assured customers that the shopping experience at Roche Bros. would remain unchanged. Caitlin and Rick Roche will continue to lead the company in their respective roles. Bozzuto’s Inc., a Cheshire, Connecticut-based wholesaler, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Roche Bros. in maintaining its autonomy. In a statement, the company said, “The reported transaction will enable Roche Bros. to maintain its autonomy and continue to independently operate and grow its business. We remain fully committed to serving all our retail partners moving forward.”

Founded in 1945, Bozzuto’s serves independently owned retailers throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. The company is currently led by Chairman, President, and CEO Michael A. Bozzuto. Roche Bros. operates 14 Roche Bros. and Sudbury Farms locations across Massachusetts, making it a staple in the region’s grocery market. By partnering with Bozzuto’s, the company aims to ensure its long-term stability and uphold its reputation for quality while navigating new opportunities in an evolving industry.
