BriarPatch Food Co-op: Round Up Non-Profit Campaign
BriarPatch Food Co-op has an ongoing in-store campaign, called “Round Up”, that helps bring extra attention and support to nonprofit organizations. These organizations can support families in crisis, address hunger, restore ecosystems, and wildlife, to name a few. During the Round Up campaigns, a vendor is chosen for a month and for every product sold from that brand, a portion is donated to the specific nonprofit organization. For every product sold, BriarPatch will also match the donation that the vendor has agreed to donate. The promotion is marketed through in-store signage and BriarPatch’s social media platforms. This is a great opportunity for vendors to partner with BriarPatch Co-op and support the community.
Located in the Sierra Foothills, serving the city of Grass Valley, BriarPatch has been in business since 1976. In their early days, the store sold mainly in bulk, was member only and the members volunteered their time. Throughout the years and after a few location moves, the retailer evolved and now is open to all, though members still receive a 5% discount. In the past six years, they have installed solar panels that provide 55% of the store’s electricity, as well as the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. This year, they announced their 2025 sustainability goals, a plan to attain 100% renewable energy and 100% of food waste diverted from landfills. They proudly, “promote a resilient community and sustainable local economy by supporting businesses, organizations and brands that are committed to a healthy, equitable world.”
A second BriarPatch location is in the works, in the city of Auburn, for mid-2022.
