Brookshire Brothers has closed its Vidor location after serving the community for 35 years. The grocery store, fueling station, and Tobacco Barn closed on August 24th, with the pharmacy closing a day earlier on August 23rd.
“Brookshire Brothers wants to extend our deepest appreciation to our loyal customers and dedicated staff who have supported us throughout the years,” said President and CEO John Alston. “We hope to continue those relationships in our surrounding southeast Texas stores.”
The Vidor Brookshire Brothers closed amid mounting competition from nearby retailers, including Walmart and the recently opened K-Dan’s Super Foods, which drew away customers with lower prices and alternative product offerings. The store’s lease was also set to expire at the end of August, adding to the factors behind the decision.
All employees have been notified and offered positions within the company. Founded in Lufkin in 1921, Brookshire Brothers now operates nearly 120 locations across Texas and Louisiana in predominantly rural areas.
