Colorado King Soopers Relocates, Expands

One of Denver, Colorado’s longtime King Soopers storefronts has relocated. The company closed its Belcaro store at 825 S. Colorado Boulevard on June 2nd and opened a larger Virginia Village location at 4201 E. Arkansas Avenue on June 3rd.

According to Denverite, signs at the new store advertised a June 3rd grand opening, even while the Belcaro location was marking down inventory as it prepared to close. The new supermarket was built on the former site of the Colorado Department of Transportation headquarters, where King Soopers broke ground in 2025.

Virginia Village’s opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 A.M. and a public opening at 9:00 A.M., according to Mile High on the Cheap. The outlet also reported that most inventory from the Belcaro store was sold or donated rather than transferred, with increasing discounts as the closure date neared. The new Virginia Village store spans 103,000 square feet and represents a roughly $37.1 million investment, according to previous Denverite reporting. Features include a Murray’s Cheese Shop, Starbucks, grocery pickup and delivery services, a drive-thru pharmacy and a King Soopers fuel center across the street. Earlier reports indicated the project would support about 200 jobs.

The Belcaro Shopping Center is expected to be redeveloped after the store closes. Developers Kentro Group and Embrey have proposed replacing the retail center with a mid-rise apartment project. According to Bisnow, the plan includes about 347 residential units and a smaller retail component. The property is owned by Dillon Cos., King Soopers’ parent company.
