Brookshire Grocery Co. hosted a groundbreaking celebration on July 30th kicking off construction of a new FRESH by Brookshire’s store at the northwest corner of North Eastman Road and North Fourth Street. It is the third FRESH by Brookshire’s location, adding to stores in Tyler and Fate, Texas. “We always thought Longview would be an awesome spot for another FRESH store,” said David Pike, the company’s district vice president told the crowd gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony. The company has planned a store for Longview since the inaugural FRESH store opened in 2011.
The Longview store will be a “third generation” of the FRESH concept which Brad Brookshire, board chairman and CEO of Brookshire Grocery Co., described as a cross between a Whole Foods Market and a regular grocery store. At 66,000 square feet, it will be 10,000 square feet larger than its Tyler counterpart. Plans for the store include a sushi bar, a taco bar, brick oven pizza, a large chef-prepared food section, gelato and an artisan bakery. There will be a stage for live music and an outdoor patio with grill and a playground for the kids.
Longview’s mayor pro tem, Councilwoman Michelle Gamboa spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony. “We’re just so excited about the great opportunities that FRESH is going to bring to our city, not only in jobs but in quality of life,” she said. The city of Longview will receive a significant economic boost with the opening of its first FRESH by Brookshire’s. This new store is projected to contribute an additional $5 million annually in taxes to the city and create 175 new jobs. Brookshire’s is investing approximately $20 million in the project, with construction expected to take one year to complete.
