Daily Dish: Whole Foods Market Opens Second Small Footprint Store in NYC

Whole Foods Market has opened its second Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, a smaller-format store designed to serve urban communities with convenience and quality, at 409 East 14th Street in the StuyTown development of New York City’s East Village. Spanning 10,000 square feet, the store introduces a Juice & Java counter that offers a variety of beverages and quick bites, including coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, sandwiches, and desserts.

Staying true to Whole Foods Market’s mission, the store features more than 400 locally sourced items from across the Northeast, each carefully vetted to meet the company’s high product standards. The Daily Shop concept is crafted for customers looking for a fast and easy shopping experience without sacrificing product quality. Whether it’s a quick snack, last-minute dinner ingredients, or everyday groceries, the store is designed to meet a range of needs. Despite its smaller footprint, it still offers many of the same Whole Foods Market staples shoppers know and love, such as fresh seasonal produce, responsibly sourced meat and seafood, ready-to-eat meals, breads, beverages including wine and beer, nutritional supplements, and a curated assortment of regional specialties. “We are excited to open the second Whole Foods Market Daily Shop location and to join the StuyTown community. This store is unique and reflects the energy, diversity and culture of the neighborhood we serve,” said Christian Damaso, Store Team Leader for Whole Foods Market Daily Shop. “We’ll be stocked with fresh, high-quality ingredients and prepared foods – whether they’re picking up coffee or a smoothie, grabbing lunch to-go, or doing their weekly grocery shop – we look forward to welcoming our customers into this new space.”

To mark the grand opening, early visitors were greeted with complimentary coffee and breakfast items, and the first 300 guests received a limited-edition tote bag. As part of the celebration, Whole Foods Market awarded a low-interest loan to Uncle Waithley’s, a Harlem-based supplier, through its Local Producer Loan Program (LPLP). This initiative supports small, local, and emerging food businesses by providing them with access to affordable capital to scale their operations. So far, the company has issued more than 408 loans, representing approximately $34 million in funding to local producers. Demonstrating its commitment to community impact, the retailer also contributed product donations to The Bowery Mission and will provide financial support to Nazareth Housing, a local nonprofit organization.

A third Whole Foods Market Daily Shop location is slated to open in Hell’s Kitchen on June 4th, with additional openings planned for Hoboken, New Jersey, and Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood.

Founded in 1980 and based in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods Market is a pioneer in the natural and organic food space. Part of Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores, the brand operates more than 530 stores across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., continuing to lead with a commitment to quality and community-focused retail.
