Dawson’s Market Closing its Doors

Dawson’s Market, located at 225 N. Washington Street in Rockville, Maryland, will close its doors permanently at the end of June, ending a 12-year run. Known for its focus on organic products, the specialty grocery store offered an extensive selection of local produce, gourmet cheeses, fresh baked goods, meats, seafood, beer, and wine. It also featured a café and juice bar, as well as salad and hot/prepared food bars.

Owner Bart Yablonsky shared the following statement: “It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of some very unfortunate news. Dawson’s Market will be closing at the end of June. Over the past 12+ years, we have poured our hearts and souls into Dawson’s. Since taking ownership in late 2018, I have been dedicated to keeping the store running, providing meaningful employment opportunities for our staff, including our special needs individuals, and delivering quality food and service to our loyal customers. The memories we’ve created together will always remain in my heart, from our first days building equipment in 2012 to working with so many local vendors, and to all of the wonderful staff, many of whom have been with us from the beginning, as well as the wonderful vendors, distributors, and customers we have known over the years. Who can forget COVID, where we built an online site over the weekend and turned our personal vehicles into delivery trucks to stay in stock? Dawson’s has impacted so many people over the past 12 years, and many of you were instrumental in our return after the closing in 2018. I truly appreciate the tremendous outpouring of support from our customers, vendors, and government officials back in 2018. You are all a testament to the vibrant community we’ve built together. While it is devastating to see this chapter come to an end, I am hopeful that new opportunities await each of us. You never know what doors may open that we wouldn’t have otherwise explored. Thank you to all of our staff for your hard work, dedication, and unwavering support throughout the years. Let’s cherish the time we have left together and stay connected as we navigate this transition.”

Dawson’s Market previously closed in October 2018 but reopened two months later. It also had a second location in Dupont Circle, which operated from June 2021 to June 2023. Since its inception, Dawson’s Market has remained true to its mission of staying locally focused by sourcing products within a 100-mile radius and partnering with local businesses for daily operations. They consider buying local as a lifestyle and a significant way to support the community.
