Fareway will move their corporate headquarters from Boone, Iowa to Johnston, Iowa in 2024. Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer confirmed the news to the Des Moines Register on August 29th.
Fareway has been headquartered in Boone since their founding 85 years ago. The move to Johnston was necessitated by a lack of space at their current location. For the last 12 years, their headquarters have been split between two locations in Boone. Additionally, as many as 80% of Fareway corporate employees currently live in the Des Moines metro area and would see their commutes drastically reduced by the move.
The new headquarters will be a two-story, 42,000 square foot office building that will have room for up to 200 employees. Fareway’s warehouse and distribution facilities in Boone will remain and will see $20 to $30 million in renovations in the next three to five years.
Fareway has plans to continue growing, including adding a second distribution center in a yet-to-be-named state as well as opening stores in Wisconsin. Fareway currently has more than 130 stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
