Feed Utah 2024 Triples Food Donations

Associated Food Stores teamed up with the Utah Food Bank in March for Feed Utah, a statewide food drive aiming to support Utahns facing hunger as many are still facing challenges due to inflation and high housing costs. Last year’s Feed Utah food drive set a record with 250,000 pounds of food donated at Macey’s stores and distributed to local food pantries. This year, the momentum continued tripling last year’s donations with over 783,225 pounds of food donated to Lin’s and Macey’s stores across Utah. The donations supplied a total of 652,688 meals to Utah residents – the equivalent of keeping a family of 8 people fed for 75 years.

During the week leading up to the food drive, residents across the state received door hangers, and Utah Food Bank asked those able to support the effort to place nonperishable food donations outside their doors by 9:00 am on Saturday, March 16th. Volunteers, including those from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, went door-to-door to pick up the food, consolidated it into large vehicles, and delivered it to various drop-off sites across the state. These sites included Utah Food Bank’s warehouses in Salt Lake, St. George, Springville, and Blanding, participating partner locations, and all Macey’s Grocery and Lin’s locations in Utah.

“I am so proud of our store teams,” said Candice Fischer, Director of CRM. “There’s a lot of organization and planning our ASD’s (Assistant Store Director) do to make sure that our stores can serve as drop off locations. It’s not only an opportunity for us to collect food for our local food pantries, it gives our team the ability to connect with the communities we serve.”

Associated Food Stores drivers also played a crucial role, picking up and delivering food to local pantries. Their involvement reflects their eagerness to support Utah’s largest food drive, aiding the 1 in 10 Utah children who face food insecurity and the 317,000 Utahns at risk of missing a meal each day. An AFS press release noted “AFS takes pride in contributing to this noble cause and sees it as a testament to their mission of enriching lives one grocer, one family; one meal at a time.”
