Food Lion Flourishes: Named Southeast’s 2024 Retailer of the Years

Geoff Waldau, Executive VP of Merchandising at Food Lion, announced that Food Lion has been named The Shelby Report Southeast 2024 Retailer of the Year and will be featured in the August 2024 issue. This achievement was made possible through the support of vendor partners, for which the company is very grateful. Food Lion’s 82,000 associates are committed to serving their communities across a 10-state region. Their dedication and expertise are key to the company’s success.

In 2023, Food Lion opened four new stores and celebrated the remodel and re-grand opening of 54 stores in Georgia and the Carolinas. The company also enhanced 76 stores in North Carolina with a $127 million capital investment to improve the shopping experience. Technological advancements have allowed Food Lion to expand its eCommerce capabilities with a new website and mobile app, enabling customers to shop conveniently online or in-store with the same great low prices. Through the Food Lion Feeds program, the company is addressing food insecurity, having provided over 1.2 billion meals to those in need. Food Lion is on track to meet its goal of donating 1.5 billion meals by 2025.

Entering 2024, Food Lion achieved 45 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth, demonstrating its resilience and commitment to customer satisfaction. Additionally, Food Lion has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for 23 consecutive years, a distinction unique to the company in the U.S. The Shelby Report’s Retailer of the Year award for the Southeast highlights Food Lion’s accomplishments and recognizes its commitment to nourishing communities, supporting associates, and making a positive impact in the areas the retailer serves.
