FreshDirect Debuts First Physical Store in Southampton

After more than two decades as a purely online grocery service, FreshDirect has opened the doors to its very first physical store. Located at 70 Main Street in the heart of Southampton, New York, the store, dubbed “FreshDirect on Main”, quietly launched over Memorial Day weekend and will remain open through the end of 2025.

The storefront offers a warm, locally inspired atmosphere that mirrors the charm of a traditional farmers market. Inside, wooden crates and earthy textures create a rustic ambiance that feels more like a neighborhood co-op than a typical grocery chain. Visitors can browse seasonal produce sourced from regional farms like Wells Homestead Acres and Deer Run Farms, discover small-batch cheeses and artisanal pantry items, or pick up prepared meals and a curated selection of wine and beer. A built-in Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee counter also serves specialty beverages and fresh baked goods, including FreshDirect’s fan-favorite croissants. More than just a place to shop, the new store was designed as a community gathering space.

Throughout the summer and into the fall, FreshDirect plans to host a variety of family-friendly and food-focused events, such as wine and cheese tastings, ice cream socials, pizza-making classes, and a children’s culinary series featuring local artisans and farmers. At the store’s launch, early visitors were greeted with complimentary banana bread and Hamptons-inspired tote bags. The first 100 customers were even gifted $100 FreshDirect online shopping credits as a thank-you for their support. FreshDirect on Main will be open daily from 6:30 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., offering both walk-in shopping and same-day delivery to local areas including the South Fork. The space also serves as a micro-fulfillment hub for orders throughout the Hamptons, Montauk, Shelter Island, North Fork, and the broader Tri-State area. This move marks a strategic evolution for FreshDirect.

Following its acquisition by Turkish rapid-delivery company Getir in late 2023, the brand appears to be leaning into a hybrid retail model that blends its tech-driven roots with in-person experiences. The Southampton location combines the immediacy of local pickup and delivery with a more human, tactile way of connecting with customers. Though currently branded as a pop-up, the success of this flagship location may determine whether more physical stores appear in the future. For now, FreshDirect has delivered something new: a grocery experience that invites people to linger, learn, and taste.
