H-E-B unveiled its newly reconstructed store at 2400 S. Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas, on December 4th. The store, which originally opened in 1957, has been completely rebuilt over a two-year period, more than doubling its size to over 145,000 square feet.
“After more than six decades of serving the South Congress and Oltorf communities, we are proud to offer our loyal customers a brand-new store filled with H-E-B favorites along with new amenities and features tailored to the area,” said Cathy Harm, H-E-B’s SVP of Central Texas region. “This is an iconic location, and this project reflects our commitment to preserving the heart of our long-time store while creating a meaningful space that will better serve the community for years to come.”
The multi-level store offers a variety of new features and amenities designed to enhance the shopping experience. On the ground level, customers can enjoy indoor and outdoor dining at the True Texas BBQ restaurant. The second level houses an extensive selection of products, including the company’s largest wine selection to date. Additionally, the store provides a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru and three levels of above-ground parking with over 600 spaces. In line with H-E-B’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the new store incorporates features such as smart lighting, abundant natural light, CO2 refrigeration, and plans for rooftop solar panels.
To celebrate the store’s reopening, H-E-B made $10,000 donations to several local organizations, including the Barton Springs Conservancy, Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, St. Edward’s University Food Pantry, Texas School for the Deaf, and St. Ignatius Martyr Church Food Pantry. The store also features art installations by Texas artists, reflecting the vibrant spirit of the South Congress community.
