H-E-B Invests $13 Million in East Austin Remodel

H-E-B plans to invest $13 million into remodeling and expanding its East Austin store on Ed Bluestein Boulevard, according to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The project will grow the location’s footprint to 52,487 square feet and includes both interior and exterior upgrades. Construction is expected to begin in March 2026, with a projected completion in February 2027.

The Ed Bluestein store remodel is part of a larger renovation effort across the Central Texas region. In recent months, H-E-B has undertaken similar projects in Bastrop, Georgetown, Kyle, Round Rock, and at its iconic Hancock Center location. In addition to modernizing older stores, the company has also introduced new formats, including the recently opened South Congress H-E-B in Austin, which spans 145,000 square feet and features advanced technology, a coffee shop, and in-store dining.

H-E-B’s continued investment in the Austin area aligns with the region’s population growth and increased demand for modern grocery retail. These developments follow years of expansion in Central Texas, where H-E-B remains a dominant player in both market share and community involvement. In 2023, the company donated $1 million to Habitat for Humanity for affordable housing projects in East Austin, signaling its ongoing commitment to the neighborhoods it serves.
