H-E-B, Kroger Give Discounts to Customers Affected by Hurricane Beryl

Many Texans suffered the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl with a week-long power outage and severe damage, resulting in massive amounts of spoiled food being thrown out. In response, H-E-B and Kroger announced discounts on eligible items to support affected communities. “At H-E-B, we’re committed to supporting our communities in times of need. Texans across the Houston area and the Gulf Coast were hardest hit by the storm and have been without power for several days,” said Armando Perez, H-E-B Executive Vice President of Houston Food Drug. “We’re in this together with our neighbors, and this discount is a way for us to lend a hand as people begin to regain power and restock their freezers.”

From July 14th through July 21st, H-E-B patrons saved 10% on all frozen food items, including ice. The discount was automatically applied at the register in stores located in Houston, the Golden Triangle, East Texas, Bryan/College Station/Brenham, and select Gulf Coast locations (Bay City, El Campo, Edna, Wharton). “Providing aid in times of need is at the heart of H-E-B’s Helping Here philosophy, which promises to support communities during times of crisis,” officials stated. “H-E-B will continue to stay close with its nonprofit partners and local municipalities to assess future needs throughout the recovery.”

When Hurricane Beryl hit Houston it left over 2 million people without power for up to a week, causing food spoilage. Kroger offered assistance to help residents recover what they lost. “As residents across the region recover from last week’s storm and subsequent power outage, Kroger is helping customers in Greater Houston restock by offering $10 off a purchase of $100 or more in a single transaction with the use of their Kroger Plus Card,” officials announced. This discount applied to both perishable and non-perishable items, excluding alcohol, tobacco, and gift cards.
