H-E-B is significantly expanding its Fresh Initiatives remodeling program, with 42 stores slated for upgrades in 2026 and early 2027, more than double the previous total. The program includes front-of-house fixture upgrades for Meal Simple hot prepared foods, along with back-of-house equipment improvements. The latest round covers 10 additional locations across several Texas markets. H-E-B described the projects as “minor interior remodels,” with individual investments ranging from approximately $166,000 to more than $750,000. The latest projects range from 40 to 1,000 square feet and are expected to begin in November, with completion by January 2027.
The Fresh Initiatives program began at a handful of stores in 2022, expanded in 2023, then slowed to just one remodel in 2024 and three in 2025. The 2026 rollout represents a significant acceleration, with nearly $18 million planned across 42 stores.
With the latest additions, 70 H-E-B locations have either completed or are scheduled to receive Fresh Initiatives upgrades. The investment reinforces H-E-B’s focus on prepared foods and its Meal Simple brand, which offers a wide range of grab-and-go meals, including rotisserie chicken, entrees, sides, sandwiches, salads and other ready-to-eat options.
