Harvest Market in Ft. Bragg, California is excited to be the first retailer in the country to launch an EBT fruit and vegetable initiative. This program will provide assistance to low-income families for the purchase of fresh fruit and vegetables. Under this program, an EBT card will provide participants $60 per month in rebates for the of purchase fresh fruit and vegetables.
There is legislation in process to expand this California fruit and vegetable benefit program to more stores and farmers markets throughout the state. This initiative will also support business for local farmers who have been struggling from the effect of droughts and floods. The program launched with a huge celebration which included elected officials, local farmers and community members on Friday, March 24th at Harvest Market in Fort Bragg.
