Healthy Living Heading to Clifton Park

Healthy Living Market & Café is preparing to open its fourth store on October 1st in Clifton Park, New York, adding a second Capital Region location for the family-owned natural foods grocer. The new market is taking shape at 1 Old Route 146 in Halfmoon, near the intersection of Route 146 and Old Route 146. At approximately 25,000 square feet, it will anchor 146 Marketplace, a $166 million mixed-use development from Luizzi Companies that is under construction just east of Clifton Park’s main retail area. The Clifton Park location will carry the assortment that has defined Healthy Living’s three existing stores, with an emphasis on natural and organic groceries, local products, and fresh foods. The company’s established format includes produce, meat, seafood, dairy, cheese, grocery, and wellness departments, along with prepared foods and café offerings. The opening gives Healthy Living a second store in Saratoga County. Its Saratoga Springs market, located at 3065 Route 50 in Wilton, opened in 2013 and was the company’s first location outside Vermont.

Healthy Living currently operates two Vermont stores in South Burlington and Williston. The retailer is arriving in a grocery market already served by several established operators. Hannaford has stores in Clifton Park and nearby Ballston Lake, while Market 32 operates in the surrounding Saratoga County area. The region also has independent natural-food retailers, including The Green Grocer in Halfmoon. Its new home will eventually include more than grocery retail. Plans for 146 Marketplace call for a mix of apartments, stores, restaurants, and other commercial space across 10 buildings. The first phase includes Healthy Living, 148 apartments and roughly 35,000 square feet of additional retail space. Development of the larger property is expected to continue in phases over several years. Healthy Living is opening the store as it marks 40 years in business.

Katy Lesser founded the company in 1986 in a roughly 1,200-square-foot market on Dorset Street in South Burlington. The business later expanded that location and entered New York with its Saratoga Springs store before adding Williston. Product standards remain a central part of the retailer’s assortment. Healthy Living does not carry produce grown from genetically modified seeds and defines its produce selections across local, organic, and eco-grown categories. The company also maintains ingredient standards for packaged foods and has long worked directly with regional farms and food producers. The Clifton Park opening also marks Healthy Living’s first new supermarket in six years. The company previously discussed additional Northeast expansion after opening Williston, but the new location will be its first store since 2020 and its first in New York since 2013.
