Hy-Vee Goes State of the Art

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee is going bigger and better as they expend their reach with “state of the art” stores. That is apparent with the opening of their new Janesville, Wisconsin store which is 97,000 square feet and is the retailer’s sixth “state of the art” grocery store. The Janesville location includes all digital shelf labels and features more than 50 television screens throughout the store. Check out options include traditional lanes as well as mobile payment options using technology with Hy-Vee’s Scan & Go and self-checkouts. Hy-Vee CEO, Jeremy Gosch explained, “we always feel like we’re different. We go into communities that make sense for us  and Wisconsin has been a very good state for us.” Gosch added, “you see us extending to Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Obviously our footprint become much bigger at that point”.

The new Janesville location stocks over 120,000 items and features 3,500 fresh produce items. They have an in-store Starbucks and a Joe Fresh clothing department, a DSW Footwear, a pair Eyewear kiosk, and a candy shop. Hy-Vee operates more than 285 stores across eight Midwestern states.
