Hy-Vee Market Grille Transition

Starting in 2018, Hy-Vee updated many of their in-store Market Grille restaurants to Wahlburgers fast-casual restaurants. The change to Wahlburgers was part of a franchise agreement and did not change the owner or operation of these restaurants, Hy-Vee remained as owner.

It was announced in early 2025 that Hy-Vee would be converting the Wahlburger restaurants located in-store, back to the former title of Market Grille. There was a total of 79 locations that were transitioned back to the Market Grille format. The Market Grille menu features breakfast items and burgers.

In April, another announcement was released about changes to Market Grille. As of May 1st, of this year Hy-Vee is closing most of the in-store bars. Also, the format of Market Grille is changing from full service to limited service. This change requires customers to order at a counter, but food will still be delivered to the table. All changes come as Hy-Vee is looking to standardize Market Grille operations and ensure the family-friendly atmosphere within the Hy-Vee stores.
