Hy-Vee has always taken pride in being the best in all things they do, including convenience and freshness. In 2018, they moved away from in-store convenience food preparation (cutting of fruits and vegetables, sandwiches, salads, ready to bake pizzas, etc.) to two central locations. These central locations in Ankeny, Iowa and Chariton, Iowa took over the food preparation to centralize and standardize all items from store by store.
Hy-Vee has heard their customers and has decided to close these two locations to move back to the in-store preparation of these convenience foods to increase service, quality, and freshness of these items for the customers.
While the closing of these locations will impact roughly 461 employees, these employees will all receive opportunities to work at various store locations. Hy-Vee is working with the employees, hoping to retain as many as possible.
