Hy-Vee opened their largest supermarket to date in Gretna just southwest of Omaha. The 135,000 square foot store will carry over 120,000 items with more than 6,300 specialty items. Their HealthMarket merchandises 8,000 SKU’s and produce will maintain approximately 3,500 items with 120 organic items. The chain is, “proud to feature several newer departments and partnerships, as well as amenities that the company has become known for.” Additional features include fresh-made tortillas, a candy shop, a Starbucks café and a Wahlburger restaurant with an outdoor patio that will serve beer and wine. Hy-Vee Gretna, will also house a food hall serving up a wide range of prepared foods and providing on-site seating. Food vendors include Hy-Vee’s Market Grille (fried chicken and other American fare), Mia Italian (fresh-baked pizza), Hy-Chi (Asian food) and Long Island Deli (sandwiches, salads, gourmet cheese and other delicatessen items.
The West Des Moines based retailer has worked since 2021 to “reimagine” their grocery concept. Larger new stores have been opened in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Grimes, Iowa, Springfield, Missouri, Las Crosse, Wisconsin and most recently, Janesville, Wisconsin.
