Kingma’s Market Expands

Kingma’s Market has been a staple of Grand Rapids for over 90 years. For the last 10 years, new owner Alan Hartline, has been at the helm of Kingma’s and in that time has remodeled and expanded the specialty market. He opened Sparrows – a coffee shop, expanded the nursery and gardening section plus remodeled to include more display space. With a third investment in four years, they enhanced their back room, loading dock, increased their employee break room and added much needed storage space. There’s also designs to become a destination for gift baskets with the added space to partly become a fulfillment center for their gift basket business.  Kingma’s has invested over $1.5 million dollars into their market. When Alan bought the business, he started with 30 employees which has now grown to 82 employees. He’s adding another 1,500 square feet to his 14,000 square foot store, an 11% increase. They are a destination for local and adding more natural and organic items to their selection. Kingma’s is a finalist for 2025 Best of Grand Rapids for deli, garden center, grocery (local) and specialty grocer categories.
