Lassens Santa Maria: Coming Back – Bigger and Better

Following a complete loss of the Santa Maria store location, by fire in spring 2025, Lassens Natural Foods has been working to restore service to customers of this Central California coast town, and is now doing so with a significant reinvestment in the Santa Maria community.

Re-building, with a footprint nearly two times larger, the planned re-opening is now scheduled for late 2026. Lassens Santa Maria new 12,300 square foot store will feature an organic hot food bar, fresh salad options, full-service deli, juice & smoothie bar, expanded body care and supplements, indoor and outdoor seating, and more – right back in the same shopping center.

Company leaders say the rebuilding effort represents a renewed commitment to serving local families. “Santa Maria has always been an important community for our family,” said Peter Lassen. “Although losing the store was difficult, we are grateful for the support we’ve received. Rebuilding in the same center allows us to return with a larger, more modern space that reflects our long-term commitment to this community with providing “The Best of Everything Good”.”

The redesigned store will emphasize fresh foods, wellness education, and an inviting environment where customers can gather, recharge, and connect. The expanded footprint allows Lassens to broaden its prepared foods program and further develop what it believes will be the most comprehensive supplement department in the area.

Founded in 1971, Lassens Natural Foods & Vitamins is a family-owned natural foods grocer, founded in 1971 and offers high-quality organic groceries, supplements, and wellness products.

In addition to the Santa Maria location, Lassens can be found in the Echo Park, West La Brea, and Loz Feliz areas of Los Angeles, as well as in Bakersfield, Lancaster, Simi Valley, Ventura, Oxnard, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. Lassens also operates the Papaya’s Natural Foods store on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, as well as two Marlene’s Deli and Market stores in Tacoma and Federal Way, Washington.

L.A.’s famous Erewhon grocery chain officially opened their new location, West Hollywood, on Wednesday February 25th, taking over the space, that previously housed Sprouts Farmers Market making it one of the larger footprints in the chain. It offers a nice, covered outdoor patio eating area.
