Lidl Location Opens in Long Island

Popular Germany-based retailer, Lidl, continues to expand its footprint in New York with the opening of its newest Long Island, New York, store in Deer Park on January 18th. At approximately 36,000 square feet, this opening marks the grocer’s largest and first ground-up build on Long Island. Looking to establish an eco-friendly store design, the Deer Park location is the discount grocer’s first store in New York to use CO2 natural refrigerant as well as to install EV charging stations. Other eco-friendly features include electric vehicle-charging stations.

As part of the grand opening celebrations, Lidl donated $1 to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets Lidl Deer Park as their home store. Lidl currently has more than 20 stores on Long Island, with the bulk of those being remodeled retail spaces that were formerly occupied by Best Market and other supermarkets. Lidl purchased the 27-store Best Market chain in 2018 and has been rebranding most of those locations. The supermarket chain is generating more than 50 jobs with the opening of its Deer Park store. Starting pay for all associates will be $17.50 per hour, which includes comprehensive benefits such as health care for all full- and part-time positions, regardless of hours worked per week.

With U.S. headquarters based in Arlington, Virginia, Lidl operates 170-plus stores in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.
