Alex Lee, the parent company of Lowes Foods, is closing three stores by the end of August. The affected locations are Lowes Foods at 805 Pine Grove Drive in Wilmington, North Carolina, Lowes Foods at 8201 Rowlock Way in Cornerstone Commons, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Kj’s Market at 110 U.S. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
Tim Lowe, Head of Retail for Alex Lee and President of Lowes Foods, stated, “We are working closely with store hosts who work at the three stores slated to close to offer them positions at other stores where possible.” These closures are part of Alex Lee’s broader strategy to invest in new stores and remodel existing ones. Lowes Foods will open a new store in Aiken, South Carolina, on July 25th, and has several other openings planned in Concord, Kannapolis, and Waxhaw, North Carolina, as well as Indian Land and Lexington, South Carolina. Additionally, the company is expanding outside the Carolinas with its first store in Georgia, at Marble Hill. Alex Lee Retail has also renovated two Kj’s Markets in Florence, South Carolina, in the past year and plans to renovate the Kj’s on Kelley Street in Lake City, South Carolina, soon. “Alex Lee Retail is deeply committed to providing an exceptional shopping experience for our guests, and we are excited about the future of Lowes Foods, Kj’s Market, and our IGA locations as we continue to invest and build for future growth,” Lowe said.
In addition to the upcoming opening in Aiken, Lowes Foods has recently opened new stores in Winterville, North Carolina, earlier this year, and in Pittsboro, North Carolina, in 2023. Based in Hickory, North Carolina, in addition to Lowes Foods and Kj’s Market stores, Alex Lee is also the parent company of Merchants Distributors, LLC, which provides wholesale distribution to supermarkets across the southeastern United States.
