Market of Choice Finalizes Acquisition of Basics Market

Market of Choice continues its expansion in the Portland, Oregon area with the completion of their acquisition of Basics Market in the Hillsdale neighborhood. A transition that includes interior and exterior remodels as well as a refresh of inventory and an influx of Market of Choice staples was completed on June 23rd. This will be the chain’s fifth location in Portland and 13th overall throughout the state, making them Oregon’s largest family-owned independent grocer.

The store will remain open during the planned changes and Market of Choice made it a priority to offer the current staff employment opportunities. Throughout the process Market of Choice has announced plans to keep up the Basics Market traditions of community involvement, local brand support, and employee health. These shared visions and continued family ownership are what led Basics Market founder, Chuck Eggert, to initially approach Market of Choice about the acquisition.

Founded in 1979, Market of Choice now operates in Eugene, Corvallis, Bend, Ashland, Medford, and the greater Portland areas of Oregon. They employ over 1400 people throughout the state and have announced plans to expand their Door Dash and Supper Club partnerships to all locations in the future. Zach Wright, son of founder Rick Wright, is the current president of Market of Choice and is spearheading the ongoing expansion.
