Natural Grocers Celebrates 68 Years With Prizes Including Tesla, Trip to Norway

Natural Grocers marked 68 years in the business in August with a weekend of sales, sweepstakes, and giveaways. The first Natural Grocers brick and mortar store opened in Colorado in 1955.  Today, there are 164 Natural Grocers locations across 21 states, according to Katie Macarelli, Natural Grocers Manager of Public Relations. Macarelli said the annual celebration is a way to honor co-founder Margaret Isely. “It’s held every August in honor of our Co-founder, Margaret Isely’s, birthday month. Though it’s a celebration of her birthday and the anniversary of our company; Margaret was a giver,” she said. “She celebrated all her employees’ birthdays by taking them out for lunch until this became impossible due to the growth of the stores. We still honor birthdays of employees by doing birthday pay.”

“This event is a chance to wow our customers and community with the best of best, at the lowest prices of the year. We even host an ice cream social on Thursday afternoon from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.,” said Macarelli. “How many grocery stores do that? There will be music, laughter, decorations, and giveaways.” Natural Grocers is a family owned and operated grocery store chain committed to supporting the health of humans, communities, and the entire planet. The retailer offers natural and organic products at affordable prices. Natural Grocers is the only grocery chain offering free nutritional health coaching from trained and educated professionals, according to Macarelli. “This service would generally run anywhere $100 to $200 per hour and isn’t generally covered by insurances,” she said. “With us, it’s free. And it always will be. We’re also passionate about sustainable practices company-wide. It’s not a trend for us; it’s what we’ve done all along.”

“We are excited to celebrate another year of nurturing our customers with the best -possible products at our ‘Always Affordable’ prices. We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings, and we want to share our success with the people who have supported us through the years,” said Kemper Isely, Natural Grocers’ Co-president. “After 68 years, we still consider ourselves your friendly neighborhood grocery store where nutrition education and nourishing food that meets our high standards are warmly offered.”

Natural Grocers members had a chance to win more than $130,000 in prizes during the three-day event, including: a Tesla Model 3, or $47,000 cash (courtesy of C20 Pure Coconut Water and Steaz); a trip to Norway, valued at $11,000, courtesy of Nordic Naturals; a Specialized Turbo Levo SL Comp Carbon e-bike (courtesy of Kettle & Fire); as well as many other prizes, gifts, and giveaways. The natural grocery retailer also launched its new app last month. By downloading the app, shoppers will get all the latest and greatest information about store sales, as well as access to some extra perks here and there.
