NCG Adds Two New Co-op Members

The National Coop Grocers (NCG) added two new members welcoming the Nordland General Store from Washington State and the North Flint Food Market in Flint, Michigan. Located on Marrowstone Island, off the eastern coast of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state’s Puget Sound, Nordland General store was founded in 1922. A fire forced it to close in 2020, and community members raised funds to rebuild and reopen their only grocery store. It took almost $900 thousand to rebuild the store which is 2,500 square feet. Residents now have easy access to quality food and a new cooperative spirit. The North Flint Food Market comes from years of planning and fundraising helping an underserved community with a destination for healthy, affordable food with meaningful jobs and and empowered residents. The store opened to the public and co-op members on November 12th and will celebrate a grand opening on January 17th, 2026.

“Each new co-op strengthens the fabric of our shared network”, said C.E. Pugh, CEO of the NCG. “Nordland General Store and North Flint Food Market are powerful examples of how communities can come together to support local access to healthy food and build lasting, locally owned solutions. We’re honored to welcome them to the NCG Family and to support their success for years to come.”

Founded in 1999, NCG helps unify food co-ops to optimize operational and marketing resources, bolster purchasing power and give greater value to co-op owners and shoppers.  The NCG has 167 member co-ops and 242 storefronts across 39 states.
