H-E-B, the renowned San Antonio-based grocery chain, is set to expand its presence with a new store in Montgomery, Texas, near Lake Conroe. The company has filed development plans for a 127,186-square-foot store, with an anticipated opening in the third quarter of 2026.
The new store will be situated on a 16.75-acre site at the southeast corner of State Highway 105 and FM 2854, a property H-E-B has owned since 2014. The project, estimated at $30 million, is expected to break ground in August 2025.
The store’s location places it near competitors such as Walmart and Kroger, the latter being H-E-B’s main rival in the Houston area. Despite the competition, H-E-B continues its expansion, having opened a new e-commerce fulfillment center in Houston in February to support curbside and delivery orders.
As Montgomery experiences rapid growth, the introduction of H-E-B is anticipated to provide residents with more shopping options and contribute to the local economy. Mayor Countryman emphasized the city’s efforts to manage growth sustainably, ensuring that development benefits the community without overwhelming existing infrastructure.
With the planned addition of H-E-B, Montgomery residents can look forward to enhanced grocery shopping experiences, reflecting the city’s ongoing development and commitment to meeting the needs of its growing population.
