Pacific Market originated in 1948 by Stan and Mary Mohar, a couple who pioneered the healthy foods movement by opening one of the first grocery stores in Northern California to offer a dedicated organic section.
Pacific Market has been serving Sonoma County for over 70 years and currently has two family-owned stores in Sonoma County, one in Sebastopol and one in Santa Rosa. The Mohar family continued ownership along with a second family until 2012, when both locations were sold to a San Rafael businessman, Vasu Narayanan.
Narayanan sold the markets to Mar-Val Food stores in September 2022. Mar-Val was chosen to keep Pacific Market a family run business with a strong community focus. Mar-Val Food Stores has been serving communities since 1952 with numerous locations in California.
Along with continuing the high-quality grocery and wellness items, Pacific Market will also keep its name under the new ownership.
