NGVC Donates 1% of Sales on World Food Day for The Cornucopia Institute

In celebration of World Food Day on October 16th, Natural Grocers hosted an in-store fundraising campaign benefiting The Cornucopia Institute. The retailer pledged to donate 1% of sales from all stores nationwide, aiming to raise more than $45,000 for the nonprofit organization.

By shopping at Natural Grocers that day, customers help support The Cornucopia Institute’s mission to protect the integrity of organic labeling, production, processing and marketing.

“World Food Day is a meaningful reminder that the choices we make at the grocery store can have a real impact on people, the planet and the future of food,” said Raquel Isely, VP of marketing at Natural Grocers. “We’re proud to support The Cornucopia Institute and help ensure organic integrity for generations to come.”

The Cornucopia Institute, a 21-year-old nonprofit watchdog for organic food, serves as a voice for consumers and advocates seeking to align their purchases with their values. Through consumer education, policy work and in-depth investigations into the organic marketplace, Cornucopia strives to uphold an organic label that shoppers and retailers can trust.

Shoppers and community grocers play a vital role in supporting the nonprofit’s mission, helping bring transparency to the ownership structures and farming practices behind organic brands.

“Thanks to the generosity of Natural Grocers, organic shoppers can invest their food dollars to heal people and the planet,” said Cornucopia Executive Director Melody Morrell. “Together, we are driving demand for the best organic food, ensuring tomorrow’s innovative organic brands have a chance and keeping dedicated organic farmers on the land.”
