Wegmans Food Markets officially opened its inaugural Connecticut store in Norwalk on July 23rd, 2025, marking a milestone after more than 25 years of anticipation. Situated at 675 Connecticut Avenue, the impressive 92,000 square foot two story location employs approximately 500 residents and features a solar paneled parking deck with a pedestrian bridge leading to the second level.
Shoppers formed lengthy morning queues ahead of the 9:00 A.M. opening, with over 3,000 guests passing through by the afternoon. Enthusiastic customers noted the arrival of premium specialty items and grocery staples previously unavailable in Connecticut, such as Pumfu and fava bean granules, while many shared excitement about never having to drive to New York for Wegmans again. True to its reputation, the Norwalk store launches with a robust culinary footprint. The main entrance flows into Wegmans’ signature Market Cafe, featuring hotspots like sushi, pizza, subs, salads, and reheatable Gold Pan meals. Specialty stations include a full-service cheese shop with an affineur case, seafood and butcher counters, bakery items, and a well-stocked grocery section blending private label and national brands. This location also introduces a notable sushi counter, a first for Wegmans, as part of the Market Cafe. Customers will find over 500 varieties of beer alongside wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic drinks. Checkout is efficient, with 14 cashier lanes, 12 self-checkout kiosks, and dedicated service and catering pickup points.
The City of Norwalk played a strategic role in the store’s development, coordinating zoning and infrastructure updates, including traffic signal enhancements at the new driveway entrance. City and state leaders joined Wegmans executives for the ribbon cutting, reinforcing the company’s commitment to local engagement and partnerships with organizations like CT Foodshare. Technological convenience is also on the horizon: Uber Eats delivery service integration will follow for online grocery orders, aligning with the brand’s push for omnichannel accessibility.
The new Wegmans offers Norwalk both variety and value in a competitive grocery landscape that includes Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s and Stew Leonard’s. With its hallmark mix of quality food offerings, exceptional service, and sustainability initiatives, the Norwalk Wegmans has quickly become a celebrated addition to Connecticut’s retail scene.
