After 42 years the Morgenstern family decided to retire and sell the operation to Mar-Val Food Stores, a family-owned regional grocery chain that operates 12 stores across Northern California well known for maintaining small-town charm that stands by its motto “Small enough to appreciate you, big enough to serve you!”.
The new owners are committed to preserving everything customers love including keeping the iconic name which means a lot to employees! “It’s a relief to know they’re keeping the name Podesto’s. It wouldn’t feel the same if it changed, said one employee who’s been there for over twenty years. The new owners have rehired the entire staff of 65 employees and emphasized that no major changes will be made to the beloved deli, bakery, kitchen and grocery services! Oh yes, the famous Dutch crunch sandwich is here to stay!
