The Raley’s Companies announced the closure of three additional stores (Brentwood, California; Petaluma, California; and Elko, Nevada) as part of an ongoing effort to align its footprint with changing market conditions and financial realities. Raley’s said each closure was evaluated individually based on local market performance and long-term sustainability. The company emphasized that these decisions are intended to strengthen the business while continuing to support employees, customers, and communities during the transition. These closures follow several recent shutdowns, including previous locations in California, with a planned closure of the Nob Hill Foods store in Los Gatos, Californiain June 2027, after Raley’s opted not to renew the lease.
Despite reducing its store count, Raley’s is also investing in new opportunities. The company plans to open a 40,000-square-foot Raley’s ONE Market in Madera, California in spring 2027. The store will serve as the anchor tenant of a larger retail development and become the first full-service grocery store in the growing Riverstone community.
The moves reflect broader challenges facing traditional grocers such as competition from mass merchants, warehouse clubs, and dollar stores, rapid growth in digital grocery sales and increasing fragmentation of the grocery market.
