San Marcos Approves Development of New H-E-B

In October, the San Marcos City Council approved an economic development incentive agreement for a new grocery store. H-E-B confired plans to build its third store in San Marcos, Texas at I-35 and McCarty Lane. The new store will feature all the quality products and services H-E-B customers have come to love and expect including curbside pickup and delivery, pharmacy, full-service bakery and tortilleria, deli and full-service meat market, an extensive beer and wine department, wide selection of organic foods and expanded healthy living department, Meal Simple prepared foods department, sushi counter, outdoor and floral departments. The project will also include fuel pumps and a car wash. H-E-B anticipates hiring 212 full-time and 238 part-time employees.

“We are always looking for growth opportunities to better serve our customers. This is a project we have had in the works for years, and we look forward to serving even more customers in this growing part of Texas with the best H-E-B has to offer,” said Cathy Harm, H-E-B Senior Vice President, Central Texas Region.

As an added feature, the new H-E-B store will include a True Texas BBQ restaurant with indoor seating. Although H-E-B operates over 30 True Texas BBQ locations across Texas, this will be the first in San Marcos. The restaurant will serve all-natural meats smoked in-house over Texas oak wood, along with sides like brisket beans, creamed corn, and homestyle potato salad.

In the spirit of H-E-B’s commitment to giving back, the company marked the store announcement with a $10,000 donation to two local nonprofits, awarding $5,000 each to the Hays County Food Bank and the City of San Marcos Police Department for community events.
