Seattle Closes Third Amazon Retail Location – Location on Fifth Avenue and Marion Street

Amazon announces the closure of the Amazon Go retail located on Fifth Avenue and Marion Street in Seattle, Washington. Amazon Go and the Amazon Fresh brick and mortar locations have been struggling, with recent closures and new store delays. This 1,450 square foot Amazon Go location, which closed Friday June 16th, opened five years prior in 2018 and was the second in the country offering their “Just Walk Out” cashier free convenience. That same tech is currently being used around the Seattle area at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field.

There are four remaining locations in Seattle as well as Puyallup and Mill Creek, Washington. The Seattle closure follows recent closures in San Francisco and New York earlier this year. There are additional delays on a few Amazon Fresh openings in six additional states.

The past year has been a struggle for the Amazon grocery division. While the plan is to build a sustainable and mass grocery system, that hasn’t yet come to fruition with the current strategy. Amazon currently operates more than 20 Amazon Go locations across the U.S.
