Sprouts Farmers Market announced last month that it has opened its first New York location in Centereach on Long Island. With the opening, the Phoenix-based grocer now operates more than 460 stores across 25 states.
During the grand opening weekend, Sprouts hosted giveaways and onsite activities, including seasonal produce sampling. The first 200 shoppers received a free reusable bag filled with products and samples. Customers who signed up for a Sprouts Rewards account during the weekend also received 20% off their purchase.
“Our community has been in need of a supermarket,” said Centereach Councilman Neil Manzella. “It’s clear Sprouts has great people behind this project, and I’m excited to see the positive impact they’ll have and the success they’ll achieve here.”
At Groceryshop 2025 in Las Vegas in October, Sprouts CEO Jack Sinclair said the company planned to open 35 new locations in 2025 and 40 this year, targeting 10 percent unit growth annually. Sprouts later reported weaker-than-expected third-quarter earnings. Sinclair told analysts he is seeing signs of a softening consumer environment. The retailer cited declining — though still positive — traffic and a shrinking basket size as contributing factors.
“We underestimated the impact of lapping strong numbers from last year in the context of a softening consumer backdrop,” Sprouts CFO Curtis Valentine told analysts, according to a transcript from financial services site AlphaSense. For the quarter ended Sept. 28, Sprouts reported same-store sales growth of 5.9% and net sales of $2.2 billion, up 13% from the prior-year period.
