Could Sprouts expand to the Midwest and to Chicago? That’s the rumor according to Chicago Alderman James Gardinar of Jefferson Park on the city’s northwest Side.
The site was previously a CVS and had been considered by Trader Joe’s. The challenge is that there are some old fuel storage tanks on the site. They would need to be removed to be followed by testing and remediation. TJ’s balked and now Sprouts is in the mix and according to Dan Croce, Senior Vice President of Real Easte at Sprouts.
The store could open in 2027 with tanks removed and challenges resolved. Sprouts would then renovate the existing 22,000 square foot location.
At present, Sprouts operates 455 stores and aims to open 35 locations in the coming year. There are no Sprouts stores in Chicago or the Midwest.
