Shoppers lined up overnight on April 24th as a new Tom Thumb store opened in Midlothian, marking the retailer’s latest investment in the fast-growing North Texas market. Located at 4221 FM 1387, the 59,000-square-foot store is one of four new Tom Thumb locations to open in the region within the past five months, with a fifth store under construction in Lucas and expected to debut later this year.
The grand-opening celebration on April 23rd drew residents, community leaders and local student performers, including the Midlothian Heritage High School band and cheerleaders. As part of the festivities, the first 300 shoppers received a free bag of groceries, while customers enjoyed product samples, promotions and in-store events. Weekend activities also included giveaways for free groceries for a year.
Bill Neve, division president, welcomed shoppers to the new location. “We are incredibly excited to welcome our newest customers in Midlothian into their Tom Thumb,” Neve said. “We’re excited to bring a full-service grocer closer to home for the surrounding communities.”
The store created more than 200 local jobs and reflects continued population-driven grocery expansion across southern Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs, where retailers are increasing investments to meet rising demand. To celebrate the opening, Tom Thumb donated $35,000 to local nonprofits, including Manna House Midlothian and the Midlothian Education Foundation.
Tom Thumb is owned and operated by Albertsons Companies, which operates stores across 35 states and Washington, D.C., under 24 banners, including Albertsons, Safeway, Randalls, Market Street and United Supermarkets.
