Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC), has finalized the acquisition of two Uptown Grocery locations from Pruett’s Food in the Oklahoma City metro area. The stores, situated in The Village and Edmond, have been rebranded as FRESH by Reasor’s.
BGC, a family-owned regional retailer, operates more than 200 stores across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma under multiple banners including Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, Reasor’s and FRESH. The company acquired Tulsa-based Reasor’s in 2022 and chose to preserve the Reasor’s brand in Oklahoma. The two newly acquired Uptown stores in OKC will be the company’s first FRESH by Reasor’s stores.
Brad Brookshire, chairman and CEO of BGC, said the company intends to offer an elevated shopping experience focused on food service, specialty offerings and customer service, describing FRESH stores as “far more than a typical grocery experience.”
After reopening, both locations will undergo renovations to incorporate expanded FRESH offerings. Plans include chef-prepared entrees, authentic Japanese ramen and Vietnamese pho stations, a taco bar, brick-oven Neapolitan-style pizza, an artisan bakery, a dry-aged beef program, full-service meat and seafood counters, charcuterie and cheese selections, and an expanded produce department with organic options. Additional amenities will include a coffee bar, handcrafted gelato, patio dining, live music, outdoor cafés and on-site parks with playgrounds for children.
The company confirmed that current qualified Uptown Grocery employees have been offered positions at the new stores. To support expanded services, BGC also plans to hire more than 40 additional employees at each location.
This transition signals BGC’s effort to expand its premium grocery presence while strengthening its foothold in Oklahoma. Industry analysts note that formats like FRESH, which blend traditional groceries with restaurant-style experiences and community-focused amenities, are becoming key differentiators in a competitive retail environment.
