UNFI Seal Integrity Policy

Delivery refusals are increasing due to trailer seals not being intact upon arrival at UNFI facilities. This is a reminder of UNFI’s trailer seal requirements to help avoid service disruptions for your customers.

All shipments must arrive with an intact, properly documented seal. Shipments arriving with a missing, broken, or compromised seal may be refused in accordance with UNFI policy.

Action Required

  • Apply a unique, numbered seal at the point of origin immediately after loading.
  • Record the seal number accurately on the Bill of Lading (BOL).
  • Maintain seal integrity throughout transit.
  • For supplier-managed freight, the supplier is responsible for seal integrity, regardless of carrier involvement.

Maintaining seal integrity is critical to protecting product safety, security, and consistent service to our customers. Non-compliance may result in shipment rejection, service disruptions, and associated costs.

Reinforce these requirements with your shipping teams and carriers and confirm compliance before releasing shipments.
