Weis Welcomes Sunnyway Stores with a Seamless Switch

Weis Markets has signed an asset purchase agreement with Sunnyway Foods Inc. to acquire select assets from Sunnyway’s supermarkets, located at 49 Warm Spring Road in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and 212 N. Antrim Way in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, both in Franklin County. The transaction is anticipated to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2024. Following the completion, both stores will temporarily close for rebranding and then reopen under the Weis Markets name. Weis Markets intends to interview current employees at these locations who are interested in continuing their employment with the company. As part of the transition, the stores will also start operating on Sundays to enhance customer convenience. “Sunnyway Foods, the Martin family, and their team have been highly regarded for their dedication to the community,” said Jonathan Weis, chairman and CEO of Weis Markets. “We aim to carry forward this legacy and look forward to welcoming the associates of these stores to our company.” Dean Martin, President and CEO of Sunnyway Foods, added, “For over 69 years, it has been an honor for my family to serve Franklin County. Although this is a bittersweet decision, we are confident that Weis Markets will take great care of our valued customers.”
