What’s the Buzz? The Giant Co. Opens New Stores Amid Beehives Unveiling
In honor of National Pollinators week, the Carlisle, Pennsylvania retailer unveils two new beehives in its pollinator garden at corporate headquarters. In June 2020, Giant initially installed three beehives containing about 60,000 bees as part of its pollinator-friendly solar field, but the hives were stolen in January 2022. The two new hives contain an estimated 30,000 bees and Giant hopes to grow the bee population to nine hives that will house around 450,000 bees by next summer.
The beehive unveiling comes in the midst of The Giant Company’s continued store expansion in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Located at 510 N. Broad Street in Philadelphia, the new location will feature destinations like a Starbucks and a Beer and Wine Eatery and a mix of gourmet and basic goods, with plenty of homage to local custom. The new store was followed by the opening of another new store in the city’s Richboro neighborhood. The 49,800-square-foot store includes many of the same features as the store that opened last week at North Broad Street and will also have an artisan bread case with self-serve loaf slicing. The two store openings signify the continuation of the grocer’s growth strategy in the city of Philadelphia and the surrounding communities. Part of Ahold Delhaize USA, The Giant Company operates about 190 grocery stores under the Giant, Martin’s, and Giant Heirloom Market banners in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
